The Regency era
The Regency paradise on Barbie Fantasies continues! Now it’s official. The next novel-adaptation of our beloved Jane Austen is being published throughout the whole year 2017. This time it’s Northanger Abbey! I know that one of the most popular posts on my site are the two novels I’ve done several years ago – Pride and Prejudice and Emma. So, I’ve decided last year that I will do another novel, since you all love them so much.
In this production
You may ask – what is different this time? We all know that those novels are all quite similar. In my case, while I was making “Pride and Prejudice” I had a quite old camera that didn’t do justice to dolls or costumes. With “Emma” I’ve already had the new camera that is helping me so much. But this time in “Northanger Abbey” I did many more costumes, backgrounds and other stuff that is supposed to illustrate the content much better!
It took me a couple of months to make new dresses, hats, purses, fans, furniture and decorations for this adaptation. The brand new feature of this novel will be a real horse-driven carriage that I could finally buy on eBay. I organised a large ballroom for the dancing scenes of the novel. There will be a real garden and my own hand-made theatre box! All this you’ll be able to see in this novel.
To make certain scenes of the novel more realistic I also used my own pictures that were taken during my trips to Russia, Germany, Belarus. Those wonderful places have helped me to create the gothic atmosphere or a real natural landscape.
In many years there will come the time when each of my dolls will have played a leading role in some kind of a project. This one presents my three very nice and friendly dolls for the first time in a leading role:
Pia as young Catherine Morland
Rosaline as grown-up Catherine Morland
Vesna as Eleanor Tilney
Let me present to you the most important characters of this adaptation:
Catherine Morland – young, impressionable girl from the country, coming to Bath with her aunt and uncle Allen.
Eleanor Tilney – Catherine’s future friend
Henry and Frederick Tilney – Eleanor’s brothers
General Tilney – their father, the owner of Northanger Abbey
Isabella Thrope – Catherine’s friend
John Thrope – Isabella’s brother, interested in a relationship with Catherine
Many other characters will be introduced later in the novel.
What is it all about
Apart from being the period drama with numerous beautiful costumes of the Regency era, Northanger Abbey is about:
and, of course, Love
